- Unique Traditions of Coorg: Preserving the Legacy
Coorg is home to some very unique traditions that set it apart from other regions in India. The Kodava New Year is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm. This event marks the start of the year with traditional rituals, dances, and music. Kodava sports, such as hockey and kabaddi, are another integral part of the culture and are celebrated in annual festivals like the Kodava Hockey Festival.
The tradition of wearing the kupya (a short sword or dagger) by men is symbolic of the martial prowess of the Kodava people. Additionally, Coorgi architecture, featuring traditional wooden homes built in the midst of plantations, offers a glimpse into how the people have always lived in close contact with nature.
